Sculpted vessel – paper and fabric, paper mache’, twine, copper wire, thread, feathers, straw, acrylic paint

Demonstration:
My work on exhibit will focus on sculptural forms and mixed media drawings. I will provide “in-progress” examples and information about the lightweight armatures and forming techniques used in my sculptures. There will be a handout in the form of a brochure including: brief background on my creative sources of inspiration and an outline and brief description of the workshop I’ve been developing for artists and writers. The handout and workshop are focused on how I practice with sensory perception and meditative contemplation to inform, enliven and deepen the creative process. My intention is to share this process with other artists and writers as a support to our mutual creativity.

Directions to studio:
Golden Egg Studio is located at 501 27th Street at the corner of Discovery Road. This in-town agricultural property includes an organic garden and several outbuildings. Park on 27th Street and enter either of the two open gates, then follow the signs to the back barn door entrance to the studio. Both metal gates from the street will remain open during the Studio Tour hours.

Artist statement:
Three processes form the foundation of my art-making: attraction; contemplation through the doors of sensory perception; and my desire for connection. As a child I found wonder in the natural world, as an adult I’ve cultivated that wonder and learned to contemplate its mystery. I believe that art can be a means of seeing beyond our ordinary views and beliefs, of entering into Joy.

When an image arises, from the world around me or the realm of dream/vision, it is a gift. My work/play as an artist is to be open to receiving these gifts. I am grateful to have been born with the ability to express myself in many forms. I’ve explored the gifts through drawing, sculpture, photography, architecture and writing. There is nothing one can say about being an artist that doesn’t sound pretentious; the real work is to hold the space for inspiration and get out of the way.
