Etching on paper
Demonstration:
I’m a member of Corvidae Press so actual printing is done on the presses there. I will have working images, transfers and plates to explain the process, generally known as Intaglio Type Printing, sometimes referred to as Photo Etching.
Directions to studio:
Sheridan to 32nd Street, turn left, second house on left. 1231 32nd Street – studio is in back yard garden.
Artist statement:
After about 50 years of sculpture and drawing, I have recently joined Corvidae Press to work on photo-based etchings. As the head of the sailing Race Committee for several years, I have gotten to know and photograph many of the beautiful, often wooden, boats in PT. I am using this background to explore images showing the gestures of these sailing craft in action, as well as the beauty of our waterfront. The original photo images are extensively reworked in Photoshop with additional drawing in Illustrator. Then using a non-toxic process the images are burned onto plates and printed just like traditional acid etched plates.
